Drinking Coffee at Night

October 01, 2021

Some prefer their coffee in the morning. For some, a mid-day motivator. And for the night owls, they like their coffee in the evening. We hold a preference for all three. With school in full swing for kids, parents back in the office, and the holidays only just beginning, it seems the days are getting shorter and shorter. To top it off, the sun is setting earlier, and the clocks are moving forward. However, our responsibilities remain the same, and that evening coffee is starting to sound quite enticing.

There is a misconception that having a cup of coffee at night hinders us from falling asleep. However, researchers from Florida Atlantic University and Harvard Medical School have set out to debunk this theory. Monitoring 785 people during a span of 5,164 days and nights, tests were performed to see how caffeine before bed affects sleep. Contrary to popular belief, the study showed no disruption of sleep efficiency.

These researchers ultimately found that drinking coffee within four hours of bedtime showed no consequences toward the ability to fall asleep. That could buy a few more hours of productivity.  A nightcap coffee could provide the energy needed to help the kids with their nightly homework. Or time to enjoy an evening winding down from a long day without having to sacrifice sleep. An evening cup of coffee might be the life hack for you.

Sleep expert Dr. Neil Stanley says, “the idea that drinking coffee before bed will keep you awake at night is a myth.” If you’re a seasoned coffee drinker who enjoys a cup in the morning, having one in the evening shouldn’t be an issue. Growers Alliance understands how jam-packed the weekdays can be. That’s why we serve quality coffee as late as 6PM Monday-Friday. Visit Growers Alliance to take back your evenings with a cup of coffee.
