Three Ways to Give Back with Grower’s Alliance

September 01, 2020

Generosity is a key component to community support and service for a brighter, healthier tomorrow. You don’t need to be a philanthropist to save the world, but you can start in your own backyard! Here are three easy and meaningful ways you can help Grower’s Alliance in their effort to support the farmers who make your morning cup of coffee possible.

1. Purchase a bag or cup of coffee.

At Grower’s Alliance, we give back all year long. Our mission is to improve the lifestyles of our coffee growers with fair living wages, education, and other resources for economic independence. To do that, we donate 10% of every single purchase back to our farmers and their communities. With the help of our loyal customers, we have been able to dig clean water artesian wells in several villages, start a 16-station dialysis clinic in Naivasha, Kenya, and support the Little Angels Children’s Home and Joy Rescue Center for HIV orphanages.

We believe in the power of education. A portion of our proceeds helps to upgrade and rebuild primary schools and classrooms from mud and grass to brick buildings. Grower’s Alliance has been able to help more than 50 students attending Kathunguri Primary School with school supplies and uniforms for the last few years.

For our coffee farmers, proceeds help provide learning opportunities for modern sustainable farming practices. Grower’s Alliance has helped the Gikumbo Coffee Society renovate water tanks and coffee storage cellars while offering workshops about pesticide-free methods, composting, land management, seeds, and so much more. With these skills, we hope to help our farmers create sustainable and successful coffee farms that raise their standards of living and foster economic independence.

2. Browse our fair trade gift shop.

If you have visited our brick and mortar store, you will see we are more than just a coffee shop! As part of our ongoing mission to improve the lives of Kenyan coffee growers, and educating them on utilizing any available resources to be economically independent, we stock a selection of handmade items. Shop our selection of unique, fair trade jewelry, bracelets, necklaces, sandals, and purses to finish your look. Our handwoven baskets are strong and durable for the perfect beach bag, tote, or an eco-friendly alternative for grocery shopping. They come in a wide range of colors, patterns, and sizes, so you are sure to find a great gift for yourself or someone you love.

3. Make a donation to our PROJECT C.U.R.E. campaign.

Access to medical services is a crucial component to the health and wellness of any community. However, the majority of Kenyans outside of Nairobi do not have adequate access to basic healthcare services to help manage serious disease and infection without making long trips to the city to care they cannot afford on $5 a day. PROJECT C.U.R.E. has access to medical supplies and equipment ready to ship from the US to Kijiji Hospital in Naivasha, Kenya in two 40-foot containers: all that is needed is $30,000 to ship them.

You can help by making a donation or sharing our fundraising page to help us get life-saving medical equipment like dialysis machines, ultrasounds, MRI and CT scans, dental equipment, and more. Visit our GoFundMe page for a full rundown on the reality of healthcare in Kenya, learn more about PROJECT C.U.R.E., and how you can help!
